Graeme Le Saux
Facts about Le Saux
Signed with Chelsea 1st time:
In December 1989 on free-transfer France 1998
The 29 year-old defender was born in Jersey the 17th of October 1968 and he started his football career at St Pauls Jersey. The talented left-sided defender or midfielder whose pace and all-round skills were first noticed by Chelsea Le Saux signed for the first time with Chelsea in December in 1987 when he came from St Pauls Jersey on a free-transfer. Le Saux first years in Chelsea were very rough and Le Saux couldn't really establish and he was very unhappy at the club. But he became disaffected there and Kenny Dalglish lured him to Ewood Park in March '93. He asked to leave when Blackburn came with an offer that Le Saux and Chelsea couldn't refuse. In July 1997, Ruud Gullit added to the wealth of talent at his disposal with the sensational re-signing of Graeme Le Saux. Chelsea splashed out £5million to bring England wingback Graeme Le Saux back to London. Finally Greame Le Saux is back at Stamford Bridge where he belongs!!! Now he is a very important part of the Chelsea defense and together with the rest of the team Le Saux is a big threat to the opponents team. The 28-year-old, who has signed a four-year contract, made a sensational return to Stamford Bridge four years after he moved to Blackburn for £650,000 in March 1993. Le Saux, who has made an excellent comeback from career-threatening knee ligament damage, winning back his regular England place, had made no secret of his desire to leave Ewood Park this summer. But he was constantly linked with Chelsea's London rivals Arsenal, rather than a return to the club he joined on a free transfer before making his debut in the 1988-89 season and going on to record almost 100 league appearances for Chelsea. Gullit had also shared that line, buying five more foreigners this summer and selling two Brits, but was tempted by Le Saux's credentials. After a superb 1994-5 season in which Le Saux secured a regular place as England's left-back, the new season took a turn for the worse when he suffered an injury against Coventry in September. Played his part in Dalglish's championship-winning team of '95 and made his way into the England team under Terry Venables, culminating in a notable performance against Brazil at Wembley when he opened the scoring with a spectacular volley. But things started to go wrong in the '95-6 season. First there was the notorious on-field bust-up with David Batty during Rovers' diabolical European Cup campaign, then an awful injury when he broke his ankle and ruptured tendons. That meant he missed out on Euro 96 and the start of the '96-7 season but he returned to an improving Rovers team and regained his England place after Andy Hinchcliffe's injury. One of football's more intelligent players on and off the pitch, Le Saux also dabbles with some effect in the field of journalism. He returned against Legia Warsaw in the Champion's League in November still looking short of full fitness. His form was so good in the Championship-winning side that his understudy Alan Wright was happy to seek some first team football at struggling Aston Villa. Le Saux suffered another terrible injury in December 1995 when he broke his ankle and ruptured tendons in a Premiership game against Middlesbrough. He has been for a long time and missed Euro 96. He started his comeback in September 1996 and won back his England place last season. Le Saux in Action: England Vs Mexico Game Barnsley Vs Chelsea
